Start to finish
How does the build process work?
Sugarloaf Landscape and Nursery runs every installation in four steps: site preparation, hardscape, planting, and a final walkthrough. The same crew stays on the job from grading to the last shrub, and the plants come out of the company’s own Edwardsville fields the week they go in the ground.
Site prep
Grading, bed lines, drainage, and clearing out what isn’t working. The ground gets set right before anything is built or planted on it.
Hardscape
Paver patios, seat walls, steps, and borders go in next, so no loaded wheelbarrow ever rolls across a finished bed.
Planting from our fields
Trees, shrubs, and perennials come straight from our 40 acres, dug and handled by the same people who raised them.
The walkthrough
We walk the finished landscape with you, plant by plant, and go over watering and first-season care before we load the trucks.
The Sugarloaf difference
The crew that grew your plants.
Most landscape companies order plants from a wholesale broker and install whatever comes off the truck. Our installers raised your trees and perennials themselves, on the same 40 acres you can walk before the job starts.
A tree that grew up in Metro East soil doesn’t have to relearn the weather in your yard. Our stock lives outside in zone 6 conditions from its first season, so the tree we plant at your place in October is the same tree that handled July here. And when the person who raised a plant also digs the hole, the depth, the root care, and the first watering get done the way the grower wants them done.
- Plant costs come from our own fields No broker in the middle, no markup you can’t see.
- Stock acclimated to Metro East soil and zone 6 weather
- One crew owns the job from site prep to walkthrough

Small jobs welcome
Can I have a few trees planted without a full landscape redesign?
Sugarloaf Landscape and Nursery takes small planting jobs across Edwardsville and the Metro East: a few shade trees, a privacy row, a new bed by the porch. Pick out the plants at the nursery and the crew that grew them handles the planting. Call (618) 692-0113 and describe the job.
Plenty of our install work is exactly this size: two shade trees out front, an evergreen screen along a fence line, hostas under the maple where the grass gave up. Browse the tree fields or the perennial rows, point at what you want, and we’ll handle the rest.
Good questions
Things people ask before hiring a crew.
The same answers you’d get if you called and asked.
Do nurseries deliver and plant the trees they sell?
Sugarloaf Landscape and Nursery installs what it sells: pick out trees at the Edwardsville nursery and the crew that grew them can plant them at your place. Not every nursery works that way, so it’s worth asking wherever you shop. Ask about delivery when you call (618) 692-0113 and the team will walk you through how it works for your order.
What questions should I ask before hiring a landscaping company?
Ask where the plants come from, who actually does the installation, how long the company has been in business, and whether you can see finished work. Sugarloaf Landscape and Nursery answers plainly: the plants come from our own 40 acres in Edwardsville, our own crew installs them, and the family has run the business since 1981. Call (618) 692-0113 with anything else you’d ask.
When can I plant?
Container-grown stock from Sugarloaf’s fields can go in the ground most of the year with steady, deep watering. For trees, early September through mid-October is the strongest planting window in Illinois, according to University of Illinois Extension, and spring is a close second. Call (618) 692-0113 and the crew will tell you what makes sense for your timing.
